the world can't end in 2012. antonio and i have too many adventures planned. hope you do as well.

Neiman lunch
dang! I was so hungry, I dove right in and forgot to snap a photo of my crab cake salad lunch at Neiman Marcus. it was EXCELLENT: a crab cake atop field greens, avocado, tomatoes, and a lime-basil vinaigrette. and only 550 calories says the menu.
last run of 2011
in early october, i started to run. i ran for about 20 seconds before i had to stop and thought i was going to die. kinda scary 'cuz i'd been a pretty consistent walker. running, however, was an entirely different matter. but the next day i tried it again and i ran 30 seconds. and the next day i ran one minute. and the next... somewhere along the way (well, on october 18th to be exact) i got the Nike+GPS app for my iPhone, strapped it to my arm, and ran. and i've gotten up EVERY morning for the last 73 days and RAN. however far i could. believe me, motivation some days was very hard. but i haven't missed a single day. i've ran in Mexico, a couple of Caribbean islands, in London, in Kentucky, in Florida, in Puerto Rico, in Manhattan, and in Philadelphia. all since October. sometimes outside. often on a treadmill. but i've done it. 314.9 miles total. about 4 miles each day. averaging 8:32 per mile. average. i'm not Usain Bolt. but i run. and for someone who could only run 20 seconds without collapsing 3 months ago, i'm pretty darn proud of myself. so here's to running into 2012... (ps: yes, i had a Jenny chocolate walnut brownie for breakfast post-run).

din din after tintin
came home for a quiet (low-cal) dinner after the movie. Jenny meatloaf, potatoes, broccoli, and carrots. triple chocolate cheesecake (yes!) for dessert. and that brilliant Antonio showed me that my calorie-counting iPhone app will scan barcodes and auto-enter nutritional info. I've been doing it all manually. genius! (and he's handsome)
the adventures of TINTIN
TINTIN (and Snowy!) in 3D. steven spielberg's first foray into animation is pure magic. reminiscent of a cartoon indiana jones, it takes off with a "whoosh!" and never looks back. it's really quite wonderful.
movie and movie snack
Antonio and I are checking out Tintin. and his faithful dog Snowy. both in 3D. and I'm enjoying my favorite healthy movie snack (after plain popcorn) - welch's fruit snacks. I can eat this entire bag for only 390 calories.
number 2
the "2011" has reigned atop times square for a year now. so it's time for the final "1" to go away and make way for number 2, creating the 2012 the will light up tomorrow night. here's that celebrity, "Number Two" making its way into times square.
turn it off, like a light switch
mittens romney and the five junior romneys. turn on your gaydar and go down the line. i come up with two. you? actually, if you've seen "Book of Mormon" on broadway you know the song: "when you're feeling certain feelings that just don't feel right, treat those pesky feelings like a reading light, and turn it off..."
ruby lunch
ruby Tuesday's has some very heathy lunch choices. AND they put the calorie count for every single menu item right on the menu. which makes you think twice about ordering dessert. and since it's two blocks from our house, it's an easy choice when it's cold outside. I seem to order the same meal each time I go (big surprise!): Asian glazed salmon, spaghetti squash, and tomatoes with balsamic vinaigrette.
gettin their rolls of new year nickels
the bank is a hoppin' place this morning. and when each person gets to the teller they have SUCH complicated financial transactions. usually revolving around an amount under $20 which takes 10-15 minutes to complete. wheeeee!
don't fence me in
new year's is gonna be crazy. they're putting a fence around our building. to keep us in or others out?
breakfast and morning music
i figure you, dear reader, are gonna get bored with me posting some of the same meals over and over again. like this jenny brownie breakfast. an oldie that never gets old. yummy chocolate and walnuts which served my breakfast about half the time during the year when i was doing the Jenny/low-carb diet thing. left to my own devices when trying to lose some weight, i repeat meals a lot. easiness? laziness? anyhoo, i decided that when i repeat a meal post, i'll try to throw in some other info to keep you, dear reader, somewhat interested. with this post i thought i'd share some of my morning running music (i ran 4.1 miles this a.m.). the dixie chicks' first two albums "wide open spaces" and "fly" are both terrific. and on "fly" there's the BEST running song: "Sin Wagon". the tempo is just right. and the lyrics so fun: "i've been good for far too long... takin' my turn on the... sin wagon!"

dinner? you bet!
we're hangin' around the casino tonight so my healthy dinner options are limited. so I grabbed a spicy hot Italian sausage with spicy hot mustard. and, to balance it, a parfait with yogurt, granola, and sliced strawberries.
the twitter diet
read this fascinating article today (albeit a year old) about new york times reporter brian stelter who decided to lose weight. via twitter. he woke up one morning, tired of being a big chubbo, and decided to post his weight on twitter each day, along with a posting of everything he ate. although it proved difficult (stelter found he was lying to himself and his twitter followers on occasion), he ultimately managed to lose 75 pounds. his "twitter diet" is the same as me deciding to blog everything i'm eating. mine is a combination of general food blogging (i love to take pictures of the gorgeous food we are lucky enough to have at fine restaurants in Philly and NYC as well as the amazing meals of our personal chef) as well as a hope to eliminate a lot of my useless snacking and shed a few pounds. after losing 80 pounds between 2010-2011, i find i've put a few of those back on - even though i'm running every day (4+ miles). so i'm hoping if i pledge to post a photo of everything that goes into my mouth--even if you don't always find it fascinating--it will help reduce the desire to snack. "i really have to take a picture of these potato chips?! meh, it's not worth it." at least that's what i'm hoping.
lunch and afternoon snack
antonio and i are going out to dinner tonight so lunch was jenny, jenny, jenny. had that classico chicken parmesan that i love so much and a slice of triple chocolate cheesecake (my ULTIMATE FAVORITE jenny food) for dessert. total lunch calories: 470. late afternoon snack was another jenny anytime bar (PEANUT BUTTER chocolate): 110 calories.
thinking thin again
I'm really liking this new brand of bars: think thin. for breakfast this morning I had one called "mixed nuts". 10 grams of protein. and quite yummy.
oh martha, you had me at peanut butter AND chocolate
martha stewart's cookie of the day is a simple ordinary peanut butter cookie where you use a fork to make those criss cross indentations. BUT, her true genius comes out when she pipes those little gullies with CHOCOLATE. she's genius, i tell you. genius.
quick, look over your shoulder
this pennsylvania man was arrested for trying to kill his wife ON CHRISTMAS EVE because she spent too much time on FACEBOOK. shocking. i mean, he looks so normal

end of a Jenny day
dinner tonight was sesame chicken a la Jenny. ended this productive day with 21 grams of fiber (not bad but not enough) and 59 grams of protein (not bad but not enough). but I'm concentrating on post-holiday healthier eating. and nutritional awareness. so it's good. how many fiber grams did you have today? oops, gotta run to the bathroom for a sec...
Amtrak snack
sitting in the Acela lounge with an afternoon snack. it's a diet coke (their ice machine is broken - aargh!) and a Jenny anytime bar. you can eat them "anytime" (duh!) and the chocolate peanut butter is my favorite. only 110 calories but 4 fiber grams and a whopping 10 grams of protein. small snack with a big nutritional punch.
dropping balls
it's only December 28th and times square is packed. PACKED. people in town early for new year's eve revelry? or just continued holiday surge? either way, it's nutty! see the ball is already in place. resting on top of the unlit 2012 (just above Toshiba). ad people every where below it. crazy ness.
good riddance lunch
since it's "good riddance day" here in nyc, I had a lunch that is helping me say "good riddance" to the extra holiday pounds. 3-cheese ziti in marinara sauce (a Jenny meal: only 280 calories, 4 grams fiber, 14 grams protein). and my dessert was a peppermint cookie from nutrisystem. now, I've never been on nutrisystem (unlike Marie osmond and, most recently, janet Jackson) but a friend of mine gave me one of their peppermint party cookies and they are AMAZING! kinda like a crunchy York peppermint patty on crack. they are beyond yum! and they have 4 more necessary grams of fiber - see my breakfast post from this morning.
good riddance day
today in times square it's "good riddance day". there are big shredders set up to get rid of any unpleasant 2011 memories for you: parking tickets, ex-love letters, photos of enemies. bring 'em down and get a big thrill out of getting them shredded. they even offer free stationery and pens to write down your worst 2011 memory and then drop it into the shredder. if you can't make it down to times square, you can submit your memory online at the Times Square Alliance website and they'll shred it for you!
black cherry breakfast and fiber thoughts
did you know the average american consumes about 14 grams of fiber per day? adult women need about 25 and men should get 35. I notice if I'm trying to lose weight, fiber helps. a lot. of course you do get to spend more time on your toilet, I'm sure that attributes to the weight loss. but your insides are also much healthier. breakfast this morning was a (very tasty) black cherry almond Clif bar. very healthy too. but only 3 grams of fiber. I need to snack on some tree bark later.

italian dinner
shrimp in pesto over fresh spinach with sun-dried tomatoes; spaghetti in pomodoro sauce with turkey meatballs; cheesy garlicky bread; and fresh coconut gelato. a very lovely dinner indeed.
out and proud
okay, so this People magazine cover sweeping the internet is a fake. People magazine itself says so. however, you just KNOW it was leaked from one they have just laying around. for when the day comes...
after school peanut butter snacks
those brilliant folks over at peanut butter & co. (LOVE their stuff) provide many ideas for fun mid-day (after school) snacks for kids of all ages. here's their smooth operator peanut butter with strawberry jam on white bread tied up with a sour ribbon and bow; pringles potato chip peanut butter "sandwiches"; and a "s'mores sandwich" with toasted marshmallows, chocolate, and peanut butter on earthen bread. yum. yum. and yum.
chicken parm-y lunch
our chef, Danee, will be here tonight cooking up all sorts of scrumptiousness for dinner. so for lunch I wanted to be good. here's some chicken Parmesan with a side of broccoli I chose. it's actually a Jenny meal. I think it's my favorite Jenny meal. "Classico chicken Parmesan". fancy schmancy low-cal yummy.
think thin
I am "thinking thin" post-holidays so I chose this Think Thin bar for breakfast in the car. I can't resist "creamy peanut butter" anything. heck, I would have licked it off the steering wheel.
